Self-Regulation and Well-Being

Kindergarten Program Overview

In Ontario, the Kindergarten program is made up of four “frames”, or broad areas of learning. This frame engages children’s learning and development with respect to:

  • their own thinking and feelings, and their recognition of and respect for differences in the thinking and feelings of others;
  • regulating their emotions, adapting to distractions, and assessing consequences of actions in a way that enables them to engage in learning;
  • their physical and mental health and wellness.

How to Use these Resources:

TVO Learn is designed to meet each child where they are on their learning journey. Learning Activities are comprehensive and require guided instruction from an adult.

Learning Activities

Learning Activities provide opportunities for deeper exploration of each frame of the Kindergarten program. A trusted adult should serve as a guide for each.

Apply the Learning

Choose from the following to consolidate learning across all curriculum frames.

  • Imagine reading a story, where a boy said to his friend, “You broke my airplane!” What helps you understand how he might be feeling? What do you think the boy might do next?
  • Think about an activity that you enjoy outdoors. Make a list of things that you need to do when you prepare for that activity.

  • What are some ways that you can share with someone that you like their artwork?
  • Make a list and identify the major parts of the human body including your sense organs. For example, the lungs are in your chest and they are used for breathing.
  • Think about your favourite story. Role-play or dramatize the story using puppets or props by retelling the story including the main idea and important events. Make sure you do this in the right order.

Vocabulary

Review this list of vocabulary associated with the curriculum. Practice spelling, research definitions, and find these vocabulary words when engaging with the TVO resources or completing learning activities.
